Beginning Work on Version 1.2.1 of EZ Animator Deluxe

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be working on a new version of the EZ Animator Deluxe. There are a few known bugs, mostly from the last update which need to get fixed. I also have a number of new features I want to add. Most of the new features will be small tweaks rather than huge new features.

Here are a list of the knowns bugs:

  1. May be a problem with the button to remove a dancer from the HUD.
  2. HUGs are working differently since the changes to the physics engine. Script may need to be tweaked.
  3. /99target not working, incorporate another name2key database if possible
  4. Targeting for hugs and other things is not working properly.
  5. Consolidated script bloated and often runs out of memory.
  6. Link for new users to join group needs to be changed.
  7. Use trim spaces so that extra spaces before or after an animation name doesn’t cause a failure.
  8. [repeat] is broken in dance mode, it emotes something like [EMOTE]|[repeat]

I am considering a number of new features and changes to existing features. I’ll list some of the more likely candidates for inclusion here:

  1. If a macro has been given a name using the [NAME] tag, then allow user to call a macro by name. For instance if you named a macro “hug”, then /99hug would run that macro, provided that notecard is the one currently loaded.
  2. [no_dance] tag which makes a macro not work during dance mode
  3. [target_first] like [target] but only the first name
  4. [target_last] like [target] but only the last name
  5. I’m considering eliminating one of the load notecard buttons and just having one. When you click the Load Notecard button you would see all notecards, regular and AO mixed. You choose which notecard you want to use and the appropriate script loads it. I’m having trouble deciding if that would be easier or cause more confusion.
  6. Tools Menu > List all animations, sounds, landmarks, objects, notecards, etc.
  7. Tools Menu > Get Nearby avatar key
  8. Tools Menu > Say Current target name and key
  9. Groundsit button. This would fill the gap that so many people seem to want. It would be a button that allowed people to use their currently loaded groudsit anywhere.
  10. I’m creating an updater that will be almost fully automatic. Future update scripts will be completely automatic. No moving animations or scripts. Just place your HUD and updater on the ground in the same sim and the updater will take care of all the updating for you.
  11. Set distance for HUGs.
  12. Check all stations on the radio notecard.
  13. /99ao on and /99 ao off should work from owner’s objects too.

I’m not certain that all of these features will make it into the next version. Also, I have a few more ideas that may make it in, but I don’t want to publish them and get people’s hopes up.

This is your chance to lobby for other new features and to point out other bugs that may not be on the list. I may not be able to get another revision out until the end of the summer, so speak up now!

    Any way to add SL water buoyancy to the hud for swimming? I know the system has changed, but i really liked that feature in an old ao of mine, and while I love my Huddles and would never go back, I miss that feature.

    Zimmi, that is a great feature. I’d like that too, I’ll look into it, but I’m guessing it might take a lot of work to incorporate, and that will push it down in priorities. I’m skeptical I can add it this time around.

    Well I hope you can make the emote post in white type not green like they are now. I want the emote to look like it coming for me that would be really wonderful for for the new huddle to have on it. Thanks for hearing my idea take care bye.

    I would still like to have some sort of avatars in chat range list and a flight assist toggle button. Yay for #10! No more fear of inventory loss on every update 😀

    Autumn, avatars in chat range is already in there. Click on the Tools button and it’s under the choices there. I guess I didn’t put that in the documentation yet. Flight assist does seem like a natural addition. It’s one of those things I haven’t looked into before. I’ll put it on the list of things to investigate.

    SexyRose, I wish I could make it white like your normal chat. Unfortunately that is a restriction of SL. If chat comes from an object, it’s going to be that green color.

    Perhaps a ‘Stop Animations” button on the AO Panel? Re: 5, I rather like the separation of the loads, saves scrolling through the miriad of cards I have, thus it would be more confusing if a load button was deleted. Hehe……. Also I’d like to be able to jump from the AO panel to the Animations panel and back without going through the control panel (the hinges are nearly worn out)……
    Flight assist? Huddles has flight assist? OMG it just keeps getting better!

    Yes, I’m very torn about putting the load buttons together in one. I’m always thinking of how I can reduce customer service issues and having two load buttons does confuse new users. Still…. it’s kinda nice having them separate.

    I’ll think about how to flip back quickly to the main buttons from the AO buttons.

    And no, there is no flight assist yet for the HUDDLES, but I’ll look into adding it. Not sure how flight assist scripts work honestly.

    Keiki, there are several open source flight assist scripts available to mess with. I may be mistaken but I think the flight feather by Argent Stonecutter is one of them. Most have a couple variable speeds although not necessary. A simple on and off would be great.

    Keiki, as for the Flight Assist, Autumn’s right, the flight feather’s good. I’ve got one that I use all the time, the script is totally open (open-source, too, I believe BSD license). It would need some tweaking for the EZ Animator, but otherwise should be fine. I’d thought about tweaking it myself, but if you want it, just let me know (send me a message in-world please – Neard Harbinger – so I don’t forget, but I don’t want to spam it on you if you don’t need it).

    Also, the swimming/bouyancy thing would be neat, but seems a bit complicated for the EZAD. Seems like most things that go into the EZAD are one-button stuffs, and what I’ve seen works more like an AO (after all, most AOs have animations for being underwater, not on it).

    However, it would be interesting to see more macros included with the product. Stuff like rezzing seats and pose-stands on the spot (self-cleaning ones that delete when the person stands up are handy). This idea comes from another HUD product I like to use, the Be-Bar. If you don’t know about it, it’s made by the same people that make the Xcite! brand stuff; it’s available on the same island as the Xcite! store.

    Finally, I think it would be really, really neat to have a sort of SDK for the EZAD; a way to easily package macros and such that could be installed automatically (again, I take the idea from the Be-Bar). Then content creators (like myself; I have a line of tools I’m working on right now for shopowners and such) could give these out with their products to offer an easy way of controlling their products without subjecting the user to another HUD device. Possibly even an affiliate vendor to tie-in, for those who don’t already have it? Even without split profits, it would be handy to have a way to show people all about the EZAD that they can hook my products into, without having to go to a whole other shop.

    Whew. How’s that for suggestions? 😀 I might even think up a few more if I have the time…You don’t want to overload too much into one product, but on the other hand, it’s nice to give people a solution that doesn’t require them to do a lot of work; for instance, anyone could drop in a pose-stand and write a macro for it with your instructions, but people are lazy, they want other folks to do the work for them. 😛

    I think I have a compromise solution for the load buttons. I’m going to see if I can keep both, but both will list all the notecards. Only the order will be different. For the AO button, the AO notecards will be first, for the other page of buttons the AO notecards will be listed last. I’m not sure if this will work, there may be a hitch that I can’t foresee.

    I cannot say just how excited I am for your updated hugger (I don’t even try to use the one there now), automated updater (ZOMG!) and the ability to groundsit anywhere! ahh! i can’t wait for that.

    thank you for all your hard, dedicated work. I recommend huddles to so many people and absolutely adore it.
