Version 1.3.0 of the EZ Animator Deluxe is Ready

February 19th, 2009

I have now released version 1.3.0 of the EZ Animator Deluxe. There have been no changes from the Release Candidate version that I set out a week and a half ago. So if you already updated to version 1.3.0 Release Candidate, there is no reason for you to do this update.

To get the latest update, go to the update area underneath HUDDLES Headquarters. Use the following SLURL to get there directly:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Animation%20Island/120/82/28/

Once there, click on the green ball to get the updater object. Rez it and follow the directions that are on the object. The directions are also on this website. And if you want to see what has changed since 1.2.1, check out the change log.

First Release Candidate of Version 1.3.0 of the EZ Animator Deluxe

February 9th, 2009

There is a new test version of the EZ Animator Deluxe available to current owners. This is a bug fix upgrade. Also, the main scripts have all been recompiled using mono which should improve performance.

If you have an EZ Animator Deluxe, head to HUDDLES Headquarters. The update area is directly below the store on the island. Use the following SLURL to get there directly:

Once there, click the orange ball to get your updater object. Rez it on the ground and follow the directions right on the updater:

HUDDLES Catwalk

January 18th, 2009

The HUDDLES Catwalk HUD was designed by Luth Brodie (of Reel Expression) and I. It is the first of many icow collab projects. For now, it is available only at the ICOW Sim.

It is combination walk replacer and posing HUD specifically designed for use in fashion shows in Second Life. It gives you an easy way to walk down the runway and strike a few poses and comes with a number of poses built in.

At a minimum, your HUDDLES Catwalk will come with four separate stands, which correspond to the four buttons with arrows. These buttons are for:

  • first pose – this is the up arrow (or forward arrow) button. This is the first pose that automatically plays whenever you stop walking.
  • left pose & right pose – these are the left and right arrows on either side of the HUD. They are typically poses that face a bit to the left or right.
  • over shoulder pose – this has the curved u-turn style arrow on the button. This pose typically will have a pose suitable for hitting when you are walking back from the front of the stage.
  • other poses – if you have added more poses (or you bought a preloaded set with extra poses) you will see numbered buttons, up to 12. You can play any of these poses by clicking on them.

Available Sets:
There are currently 4 sets available. More will be added soon.

Detach Bug is fixed

January 7th, 2009

It appears that there is a fix for the Detach Bug that has plagued so many people this past year. It will probably take some time before it actually gets into the release build of the client. Still it’s good news to know this will soon be fixed.

Qarl Linden posted this on the jira:

sorry for all the grief. should be fixed when maint-viewer-12 reaches RC. until then, try to avoid copying worn objects, and wearing objects directly from the ground.

What to do when your EZ Animator Basic won’t open

December 31st, 2008

There are several reasons that your EZ Animator Basic might not open. Here are the steps you can take on your own to try to solve the problem.

First, try touching the bottom edge of the maximize button a few times. That should work in most situations.

minimized

If that does not work, try detaching the HUD and then attaching it to a new HUD location. Right click on the object in your inventory, choosing “Attach To HUD” and choose one of the open spots.

If that does not work, follow this link because you may need to reset the scripts in the HUD. If it’s still minimized, try touching the bottom edge again and attaching it to a new HUD location.

Lastly, if nothing seems to happen when you reset the HUD, the scripts may be missing. Follow this link to see how to put your scripts back into the HUD.

AKEYO sells copyable dances

November 17th, 2008

Today I met another animator who sells copyable animations, Akemi Yoshikawa. She makes dances and AO animations at her store, AKEYO. She gave me a few of her dances to try and I was impressed. And I’m always interested in promoting animators who have the good judgment to make their animations copyable by default.

So remember when you are looking for new dances, always go to the stores that sell copyable dances first!

Can I use couples dance animations in the EZ Animator Deluxe?

September 20th, 2008

Well, the answer is maybe. Ok, let me explain what I mean.

When people talk about couples dance animations, they are usually talking about the syncronised pose balls you see on the floor at many clubs. They are slow dances or salsas or some other dance, they are designed to work inside poseballs and getting them to work in a HUD is often either difficult or impossible.

The reason they work in poseballs is because you can easily align two avatars correctly with a set of poseballs. In order for the avatars to look like they are dancing together, you really want them in just the right position with just the right rotation.

Now, HUDs can handle some syncronised animations, but they need to be designed to work with them. The best example of this is a hug animation. When you initiate a hug, the two avatars are squished together and the animation begins. These hug animations are designed to look right if the avatars are facing each other and squished together.

HUDDLES EZ Animator Deluxe v1.2.1: I don’t understand

September 2nd, 2008

About a week after we went final with version 1.2.1, someone pointed out that there is a problem with the listener that is on channel 7. The listener is part of the flight assist script. I left the listener as is, not wanting to break the script (an open source script that I incorporated with permission from the author).

The problem is that when you say something on channel 7 that the HUD doesn’t understand, it gives you the feedback:
