A new bug affecting Mac OS X users

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

There is a bug in the SL client which affects two of my products, the Landmark Pal and the EZ Animator Deluxe. Basically it breaks the function that maps landmarks. It only affects people using OS X “with the Intel version of the client, OS X on PPC seems to work as designed.”

This bug was reported June 27th. As of today, it’s not been assigned to someone to fix. It might be because it only had 11 votes. This is disappointing, because this kind of bug should be quite easy to track down and fix. Please vote for it so it can move up as a priority for them.

What’s the best Dance HUD for Second Life?

Monday, November 19th, 2007

A few recommendations posted in the Second Life forums:

I use HUDDLES Deluxe, which not only does all that, but can be used as an AO as well. It’s not super cheap, but I think it’s worth the cost. :)

I’ll second Ann on this. I love my Huddles.

It will cost more than some lesser HUDs but then again you are unlikely to ever need another

“I put 2 new dances into my HUD but they aren’t there”

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Occasionally someone will IM me with a problem that goes something like this: They have been using the EZ Animator Deluxe for a week or two with no problems. They decide to go out and buy a couple dances and drop them into their HUDDLE. They drop their HUDDLE on the ground, put the new dances inside and pick it back up. But when they wear it, they either are missing the new ones, or they are missing the old ones. What happened?

Well, most likely they have put the dances into a fresh copy of the EZAD, not the one they had been using. See every time you rez the original EZAD you received, SL rezzes a new copy on the ground. So if when you go to add new dances, you accidentally rez a fresh copy and not the one you were using, you will think some of your dances have gone missing.

To find your dances, I recommend doing the following:

  1. Open your personal inventory and search for “1.1.3″. This will bring up a list of all the EZADs you have in your inventory.
  2. Identify the EZADs which have “no copy” next to the object name. If an EZAD is labeled as “no copy”, that means there are some no copy animations inside.
  3. Rez each no copy EZAD on the ground and look inside by right clicking on it and choosing “Edit”. Then select More and Content. Look inside and find your animations.
  4. Collect all your animations into one EZAD by dragging them into your inventory and then dragging them back into the copy you want to use.
  5. You may want to rename the EZAD something different so you can tell it apart from all the other copies that you might have floating around in your inventory. You do this by clicking on the General tab on the edit menu.

The other reason their animations might be missing is that they hit “Copy to Inventory” or “Copy and Wear” after adding animations to their HUD. If that might be the problem, take a look at this other blog post.

Some questions from a customer

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

I recently received a private message from a customer who asked a couple about her EZ Animator Deluxe. Her first two questions have both come up before and I thought it might be worthwhile to post my answers here and add some graphics.

She writes:

  1. This is my biggest frustration. I have entered the stands into the config card correctly. I don’t get any script errors BUT I can’t figure out how to bring up the menu to choose stands! What button do I use to access different stands that are in my config? It is kind of a pain to load all animations and try to find the stand I want to use :-}
  2. It seems to be trial and error for me when I hit the open button. sometimes I get the notecards and sometimes I get the configs and I have not figured out what to do to so I know when I go to load things if I’m going to get the notecards menu or the config menu.

Here are my responses:

1. How can I choose my stand?

For sits, ground sits and walks, choosing which animation to use is easy. You click the button at the bottom of the AO buttons and then pick a number 1-5. The assumption is that you will pick one walk, sit or ground sit and not want it to change until you select a different one.

However the assumption for stands is completely different. Instead, an AO assumes that you will want to cycle through your stands, changing each one every 30 seconds or so. A lot of people, myself included, don’t like the cycling. I like to choose my stand depending on my mood.

But there is a way to do what you want. Set your stand time interval to 0 seconds (the button that looks like a watch next to the AO buttons). This will turn the cycling off. Then use the Next Stand button to choose which stand you want to use.

2. How come sometimes the load button brings up regular notecards and sometimes AO notecards?

There are actually two buttons to load notecards, I guess the confusing part is that they are in the same place and use the same icon. When you use the flip button, the little circular button, to flip between the regular dance buttons, the AO buttons and the admin buttons, you change which load notecard you are using.

For instance, if you have the Dance buttons showing (and see the All and Me buttons), then you can hit that load button to see the regular notecards, like the dance notecard. If you see the AO and Sit buttons, and hit the load button, you get those AO config buttons to choose from.
